Discontentment #1

When is the best time to blog, to write and to grumble in general? It just so happen to be Monday. Like why not? Here I am sitting in front of laptop and listening to Alicia Keys just to get my moods going so I can start working on whatever it is I should be working on. Fortunately, today I choose to be lazy and not go to work. I wanted to watch the Oscar’s but I woke up late. I saw a bit in mid-clouds and just lazed the entire morning away.

Monday always sucks big time. I feel sleepy from poor Sunday night sleep, tired from lack of rest over the weekend, unready for another week of a thing called work, unprepared for purposeless management meeting, unsatisfied with my team for crappy progress, unsettled with my own pile of work, crappy to be wearing somewhat of a uniform on Monday, sucky because the office connection just sucks, unmotivated because the L word won’t download and the list is endless. So thank God I’m home today.

I salute those who get up with a smile on Monday morning and ready to be tortured at the office. Sadistic yet admirable.

Why do I hate work? It’s a family business. That should sum it all up. Seriously, my sister is my boss whose mood swings is worse than hurricane Katrina. I have no definitive role in the company except to clean up the CEO’s shit wherever she leaves them and I’m not even her PA. My colleagues are such bore and the cleaner is always insistent on poking my leg with the vacuum cleaner. The only plus point is that my gf works in the same office.

Speaking of gf, mine is a dear. I’m in this sort of long term relationship and I’m feeling a little too young to be doing such thing. Lucky for me, my gf is patient and tolerant. She puts up with my constant temper and occasional depression. She tends to my every need but best in urmm hehe y’know… I’m just so lucky to have her in my life and I’d be even luckier if she sticks around till I’m ready. I try not to be selfish but sometimes I fail at it. Again to state how lucky I am, I have a woman who forgives me when I do it wrongly. We learn from each other but mostly, she is my teacher. I love her man!

I also live in Malaysia. I’m proud to be a Malaysian and love living here. But I do have my complaints. First of all, the weather. I complain 10 times a day without fail. Secondly, the news is lacking of substance just like our new PM. Sorry dude, you just suck and I happen to be a proud supporter of Tun Dr. Mahathir. Thirdly, traffic is massive and public transportation is functioning like we’re victims of Katrina or something. Fourth would be the damn political corruption. Just look at the cases on trial these days. I mean, be it murder, fraud or corruption cases, it’s all politically link. Justice no longer serves a purpose but my advice is to get a good lawyer. Like that guy who writes the verdict or something for the judge. Powerful lawyers and lucky me, half my acquaintances are lawyers. Fifth goes to our radio stations that run 3 hours of ads as compared to an hour of music in a 4 hour show daily. Bring back the music man! I think I’ll move entertainment complains in a different section.

Oh lookey here it’s the entertainment complains section!

Right, I’ve mentioned radio ads and the lack of actual music, so on to the radio announcers. I wouldn’t call them DJs like how they’d introduce themselves. What’s up with VJs while I’m at that?? Anyways, these announcers must somehow put on some kind of fake accent or just overkill their own accent on radio. They make it sound so hard and terrible to speak. We’re Malaysians and some of us speak perfect English without accent and we can be understood better. Why not you all try? But it’s ok I guess for some who was probably born and raised abroad in some heavy accented community or school to speak in such a way. However there’s a big difference between a put on accent and a natural one. Observe a bit and you’ll get what I mean. As for the Malay stations, the announcers either speak too damn fast for listeners to grasps even a single word or promote some “pasar” language. Seriously, Malay is a beautiful race as well as a powerful language. Use it right people.

Oh I’m not done with entertainment because I have yet to bring up reality TV contest-like show. That’s right. There’s Akademi Fantasia, One in A Million, Malaysian Idol and God knows what else I’m opting to miss out on. All these are singing competitions perhaps looking for the next big thing? The best outcome is no other than Mawi whose been crowned Raja SMS. Yay for him but BOO for those who spent hundreds and thousands of MYR to vote for him. Once again Malaysians contribute to inflation. Sangat pandai. The point is, can he really sing? Is he the entertainer we hope he’d become? Honestly, with the way he still speaks, I doubt all things about him. So enough with reality stars and focus on making something really good for a show like The L Words or Damages.

Check out Datuk Siti who came from Bintang RTM and now married to some big shot and have yet to learn to tie her “tudung” properly. She was the girl who pronounces Vogue as “vo-gee-yu” and yet she is admired by many for being brave at attempting English. English is another issue in the entertainment industry in Malaysia. We have two clear classes of Malaysian artists. One that speaks flawless but accent-‘d up English (if not by default I hate them) and another that speaks gibberish for English. English is not too hard to learn in school ok. Why are you all so damn lazy?? Those who tries so hard with the accent, now why so rajin lah? Focus you energies on the right stuff. For instance, bring back good music and make worthy films and TV shows! I don’t want to go into malay drama because it’s too hectic for a Monday morning.

There’s just so much to be discontent about on Mondays but my energy is running out. Till next Monday then. Maybe we can share talks on office lunches or why the government does not support bumiputra as much as they say they do while the wealth spreads among non-bumis? Or perhaps talks and predictions of the coming election? Just wait you for my strength to regain itself.

Done.
